About

This site was started by two artists based in the town of Ridgefield, Connecticut, who, by some odd twist of fate, ended up becoming friends. Though originally just an extension of that friendship, it has become a small channel through which a group of artists may present the public–as well as each other–with new ideas and illustrations. There is no set theme, no underlying unity in the stream of work posted here, other than each piece is done primarily in pen and ink (and usually contains hatching or crosshatching). The name of this site, ‘crosshatchers,’ refers to the drawing technique whereby lines (‘hatches’) are placed in a parallel fashion to denote a tone or value; the ‘crosshatch’ comes into play when another set of lines are placed at an angle to these lines. In short, we all love lines (a lot of them tiny), and obsessively incorporate them in our work. We are…

I’m a twenty-nine year old artist originally from Rhode Island. I received my BFA in Illustration from the Art Institute of Boston, and have joined the ranks of published children’s book authors with my books Honey Badgers, The Bedtime Train, and Alice in Wonderland. I currently live in Ridgefield with my wife, Erica, my son, Oliver, and our two cats. Oh, and I hate Marc.

I’m a twenty-four year old artist who’s been doing abstract painting for the past nine or so years; I’m just now getting back into drawing and illustration, so it’s an adventure coming back to all this from such a long hiatus.  Oh, and I love Jamie.

Yeah…  So…  I’m a product of suburban/rural Pennsylvania. I live and die by Speedball India Ink and #102 pen points. I’ve gotten my war on by writing and illustrating three children’s books:

The Letter Home
Run Far, Run Fast
For Liberty: The Story of the Boston Massacre

I live in Jersey City, NJ with my wife and my guitar.

I’m influenced by all forms of art —in all forms of media. I love Samurai films, comic books, music and the culinary arts. With this mind-set I’ve discovered a fantastical and unusual body of work while pursuing a career in freelance illustration, teaching and fine art. Of late, I have been working on a zombie comic book project called Zombie Bomb that will have work from some great artists and writers and be published by Terminal Press in early 2010. I have also had work published by The New Hampshire Telegraph, Sam Adams Brewing Co., EMCParadigm Publishing and many others.

Bort

Bort is an animator/illustrator currently residing in New York City. Typically involved with computer-based art, he occasionally gets a chance to get down with some ink and nib work, or just doodle on the train with his microns. His work is often on the border between insane and just plain perverted. Enjoy.
