The punk book continued…

Time to step things up a bit on the old X-hatchers’ site with more crazily rendered pen and ink nonsense.  So… does this suck?  Any thoughts?

There’s a little hatching, I swear…

Yeah, more problem solving. For some reason, I’m complete sucked into the idea of using jet black skies to represent those deep, Pacific, blue sky days; which seems completely counter-intuitive… which is probably why I like it.

New year, new post.

So, it’s official. Time for a new book; ink plus punk equals… many, many hours of work.

Night Sky Test

I swear that I’m not neglecting my X-hatcher’s responsibilites, it’s just that I’m not working on anything that will fit on my scanner.  So, here’s a sketch.  It’s a test solution for how to draw the night sky.  Imagine this little image 4 or 5 times larger and hella more complicated and then you’ll be on [...]

“Not the Cover” of For Liberty…

I played with a bunch of cover ideas, most of them were terrible, but I’ve always liked this one. Maybe I’ll print it and put it on my copy.

I have no idea why I own blue ink.

When I make drawings for myself, they are almost always linear, sparse and take about 30 seconds… one minute tops. I have no idea how I started making illustrations that take 12 to 20-odd hours to finish. Nor can I figure out how it is that I haven’t written anything centered around cute, Edwardian ladies. [...]

A day looking at old stuff… by old, I mean last June.

The idea being that I’ll feel confident to move ahead with this project even though I’m not completely certain that it will ever make sense to anyone but me. Oddly enough, these fully rendered pages look quite different on the the screen than in real life.

Another small drawing…

Here I sit, doing rough sketches for a new picture book. Have I mentioned that I hate scanning images? I’m working on getting over it.

Sketching…

Oddly enough, I haven’t really inked anything since July, so this is just me getting back up to speed. I have a small mountain of paper with 4×4 inch squares left over from a defunct project, so, expect some tiny drawings.

I guess I’m feeling bloggy.

My first post. As I tend to be verbose, I’ll keep this short. Many thanks to Marc and Jamie for asking me to show my stuff. So… here’s a drawing for a graphic novel that I’ve been kicking around. Every other day, I feel like tossing the whole project in the trash. Today is one [...]
